
HONOLULU - Brigham Young University-Hawaii has put on probation for three years by the NCAA for not monitoring certain aspects of its athletic program, officials said Thursday.
Michael Johanson university spokesman said in a statement that officials have "no objections" to the decision.
The university "intends to follow all recommendations of the NCAA, and has been the changes in the areas of deficiencies in the decision today," said Johanson.
BYU-Hawaii does not follow the athletics program in four specific areas relating to the eligibility of student-athlete academic 2005-06 through 2007-08, said the NCAA Division II Committee for infringements.
For example, said the committee noted that the University is required for the application of a provision that authorized the transfer of eight student-athletes were to compete. The eight participants in different sports - baseball, basketball for men and women, men's and women's soccer and men's tennis.
In another case, the University of three students-athletes to practice, competition and travel expenses prior to receipt of final certification from the center of the amateurism eligibility of the NCAA, said the committee.
NCAA rules require student-athletes to nominate a program for the beginning of the third year of the notification. Enforcement personnel in four situations in BYU-Hawaii, where the rules were not followed to determine the class and the school authorities did not identify the monitoring of compliance with the rule, said the committee.
The University must also monitor the implementation of the General of the NCAA amateurism and worksheets for international students, and select in the courts, the official said of the NCAA.
In addition to the probation terminated by August 25, 2012 has, Brigham Young University-Hawaii, received a public reprimand and censure, and is a mandatory review and annual reports on compliance.
