
Agricultural labor in Hawaii was in July 6100, according to a new report.
The number of employees in the week 12-18 July, unchanged from the survey weeks in April, but by 2 percent in July last year, the National Agricultural Statistics Service Hawaii Field Office said Monday.
Pineapple workers and cane sugar was 900, up 22 percent over the same period last year, the result of the layoffs on Maui Land & Pineapple, and Gay & Robinson on Kauai.
Maui Land & Pineapple laid off 204 workers in July 2008, and Gay & Robinson Sugar cane measures completed in September 2008.
Hawaii's total agricultural employment - including self-employed farmers and unpaid workers, such as family members and others who are working 15 hours or more per week - rose to 10,400 workers weeks of research, by 1 percent over a year.
The average wage for all employees during the week of a paid survey was estimated at $ 13.97 per hour, 5 percent higher than a year ago.
Hawaii businesses with one to nine workers pay on average $ 12.50 an hour. The combined average wage for field and livestock workers was $ 11.40 per hour.
