Hawaii's new marketing plan to address the decline in tourism

Honolulu (AP) - The sale of Hawaii could be considered the easiest job in the world.

"As I told our team knows all the time:" If you blow this job is, I do not what we sell, "said Jay Talwar, Vice President of Marketing for the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau.

But lately, has not been so easy. Hawaiians and other tourist destinations subsidiaries have suffered a perfect storm of challenges this year - the economic problems of the swine flu fears - and not yet recovered.

Hawaii Among the new initiatives is a plan, the growing industry of clean energy by attracting events, fairs and conferences in Hawaii recorded. A new website launched Friday, with information on initiatives in Hawaii, trying to become a leader in wind, wave, solar and thermal energy. Most of the nation's fossil fuel-dependent state should have at least 70% of its energy needs supplied from renewable sources by 2030.

"As a state are we willing to show the participants," said Neil Mullanaphy, representing the Hawaii Convention Center.

Hawaii is also the partnership with China CITIC Bank, a major Chinese banks in setting up a credit card Hawaiian theme, which soon end up in Asian countries. Cardholders will pay off if you travel to the islands.

The Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau, responsible for sales in North America, Hawaii, plans to extend its advertising and public relations blitz major markets continue to the West Coast. The campaign includes local cuisine, music and culture. The first campaign was held in San Francisco in March, when tourism officials a success.

"Of course we have experienced very difficult times," said John Monahan, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The good news is that there is still a strong demand for Hawaii. The product is highly motivating, but with the unfortunate times that we face, to travel and spend if they are the hardest."

Monahan said anything that enjoys his agency does not change the demographic targets - an active visitor, golf, cultural experiences, dining and spa treatments.

"We have never fallen to concentrate all the time," he said. "When we started to recover, it will be a good omen for us."

It depends on whether the bank if the CD or not - a rare feat - the bank will not pay just the interest due.

In the case of a bank insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. is wrong, and that is taken by the FDIC, the CD like any deposit - up to $ 250,000 per depositor per bank covered, as principal and interest. No waiting for access to their money.

In case of default by a bank, which is still operating, regulators advise you first try to correct the situation with the institution. Hawaii Youth Defense Review

Honolulu - Hawaii coach Greg McMackin and defensive coordinator Cal Lee has been coaching football for 78 years together at all levels, has not yet been a challenge and the question this season.

Case of the season 7-7, including a loss against Notre Dame Hawaii Bowl, the Warriors defense before a complete overhaul.

Passing the 10 starters, including linebacker and co-Western Athletic Conference defensive player of the year are Solomon Elimimian. By the defense, which is always a crime in Hawaii from a number of games last season. Gone is reliable, veteran group that had the experience of playing in almost all situations.

Instead, the defense is still a full-time starters - senior linebacker John Fonoti - and the few question marks, but no doubt rich optimism at this early stage of practical preparations - season.

"I've never had a team in which they do only one kind of return to the game," said McMackin. "But we practice very well. They are very eager to learn. They collect things quickly. His attitude is excellent. We are very close attention to detail and the players are focused on this point. It's fun to train, and the players work hard. "

The growing pains were apparently in the new defense last spring.

Meatoga Vaughn, shaken in its second year, was expected this season, when reminded that the bags line of defense, the team came together just enough to be counted "on one hand" through the practice in the spring.

In the annual spring game until the end of April, the offenses combined 48 points in the first half, and have three passes of 50 yards long.

This is clearly a defense of drowning in the lack of familiarity, but it is a problem that has set in four months that followed, the coach said.

"We had the chemistry," McMackin said of his defense in the league this spring. "Everybody tried to do their own work. I think now in autumn, boys find their place in play with children and more than one teamness and unity. For the last few weeks were really together. We" Get the sales were. We were playing. "

The coaches that the cupboard is not bare, wounded despite the loss last week, senior linebacker Brashton Satel, sitting on the season with a left shoulder.

Back talents, is mainly the body Linebacker Blaze Soares and RJ Kiesel-Kauhanen, the new look to consolidate that the defense will rely heavily on the speed of the computer. Fonoti started all 14 games last season and finished with 62 tackles and 3.5 sacks. McMackin calls, 6 foot 2 inch, 290-pound Meatoga team "Best Deal" last season, when he was a newcomer, a red shirt.

The approximation is still very stiff. But at this point in camp, is where players fight for positions not necessarily a bad thing.

"The competition is great teams in football," McMackin said.

So know strong defenses and defensive players that ride with a veteran offense that gives the weight of the season on his shoulders could.

"I come this year to overlook our defense," said Kiesel-Kauhanen. "I think this year we are working to establish ourselves as a defense. ... I feel comfortable with the guys. There are many good players. We just gotta be ready."

The fact that no individual of the 31 bills, the entire operation, higher taxes California sinking into chaos.

Early Friday, the Senate has a bill to use the nearly 2 billion U.S. dollars from governments, the leader of the majority in the Senate said they had more opportunities to try to close the defect to gain enormously.

"I do not know how to get another 1.9 million U.S. dollars, the members, the President of the Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, said that his colleagues." If you believe that this agreement is a bad thing ... please this way 1.9 million U.S. dollars to a political and a two-thirds of the votes needed to further disasters of this state that we all love. "

The local lending is one of the many aspects of engagement on the budget before the legislative assembly unsecured.

Can the measurement of the controversy, the expansion of oil wells off the coast of Santa Barbara, was not one house in the vicinity of 10 hours after the speech session began on Thursday evening.

In one, as the budget agreement was fragile Steinberg said the loss of a flight on Friday morning, with his family in Hawaii, the more time is needed, which was originally thought.

The commitment of the 80 members of the National Assembly and the Senate of the 40-Member States on Monday of the Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic Republicans, the leaders of each house.

This will be around 60 percent of a draft $ 26 billion deficit reduction in expenditure. The remainder is represented by a single time in the local administrations in the race and maneuvers of the financing, as their paychecks of state employees was one day to the paper 1.2 billion U.S. Dollar.

Both houses quickly passed a law, the fundamental rights of the breaks in the academic college scholarships, programs for health, well-being at home in support of services and the state of the prisons, the measures have been tried for the rest of the deficit that the time is becoming increasingly difficult.

Some two-thirds approval needed, which means they need the support of a handful of Republicans, the minority party in each house.

Legislative leadership, the solution is incomplete and inconvenient regulations such as the drilling of offshore oil and cuts in all programs, including education, prisons, health and wellbeing. But they say that it is important for the treatment of the condition of the liquidity crisis.

"It is worse than never taking place," said Assembly Woman Noreen Evans, D-Santa Rosa.

The status of the minority leader of the Senate, Republican Dennis Hollingsworth, said that the ends without the tax increase. He said that the reforms of welfare and social services programs, because the Republicans believe that the state money in the coming years.

The rapid decline in tax revenues and not by the Republicans of the state taxes have left but little opportunity to minimize costs, borrow money, in other places and with various accounting tricks to their books.
